just read that bon iver submitted a few songs for a film i was in that was shot in wisconsin back in ‘06. he/they wanted a couple grand to use them. that would have been maybe 15% of the film’s budget, so the producers balked. the audacity. the nerve. the … foresight.
honest question here, if a little rhetorical. if birth control were given another name, could it then be covered by religious organization’s health care? here are some listed benefits of the pill via planned parenthood:
serious infection in the ovaries, tubes, and uterus
iron deficiency anemia
cysts in the breasts and ovaries
premenstrual symptoms, including headaches and depression
heavy and/or irregular periods
is there another pill out there that serves the same needs, provides the same comfort, prevents the same ills that doesn’t also prevent pregnancy? guessing not, but what do i know. very little on this topic, to be sure.
now think about this, certain chemo drugs prevent pregnancy. shouldn’t chemo be classified as birth control? some drugs taken for depression and mental health can cause infertility. should they now be called birth control? of fucking course not, because although they do prevent pregnancy, they serve to help alleviate symptoms of other ails, help cure other illnesses, help people live. so if it’s ludicrous to think that chemo drugs or antidepressants should be classified as birth control, could it not also make sense to call the combination pill an ectopic pregnancy, ovarian cyst, bone thinning, acne, infection, and cancer prevention pill, whose major side effect is infertility? would this make it ok? would this make it possible for us to live in the 21st fucking century? or am i just fooling myself?
UPDATE: fixed image to reflect more accurate side effect.
