call acts of protest what you will — and many call them futile — but results are results.
on a side note re: protest: i hear a lot from people who say internet protests are pointless. i hear from many of the same people that occupational protests are pointless. subjective as protests are, it’s odd to me how a person can say get off your ass and do something about it instead of changing the color of your avatar, (and to one degree, be spot-on with that sentiment.) then turn around and tell occupiers to go home, you have no exit strategy! (because i once heard someone use the term exit strategy!) i don’t know. i guess my point is, doing something, anything can be powerful. (organized protests are effective protests.) if you oppose the protest on the basis of its argument, oppose it. but to spend so much energy shitting on people who are trying to make their world a better place — despite your sharing their opinion — simply because you see it as stupid or a waste of time … well, i guess the old (modified) standard applies: lead, follow, or shut the fuck up.
